FXCM's August 2011 Monthly Metrics - Crazy August means volumes are up!
- As we already know August was one crazy (volatile) month. This means two things - brokers will report volumes higher than the average and many traders will have lost money. We'll see this reflected both in the public brokers' data, such as FXCM below, and in this quarter's profitability report (due in October). Not surprisingly FXCM shows a very strong growth in volumes, especially institutional ones, amid slow growth in number of accounts.

FXCM to Acquire Japanese Forex Broker Foreland Forex Co., Ltd.

WSJ: BNY Mellon Forex Trades Cost Pensions

Saxo Bank announces new offshore Renminbi CNH trading facility
- Saxo Bank just announced that it will now allow offshore renminbi trading against the USD. Saxo thus is joining the likes of HSBC and BMO who already allow this type of trading. As we already mentioned few times, it may be a sign of China opening up for retail forex trading in the near future. FX Options and swaps can already be traded onshore.

A new US retail forex broker is born - OptionsXpress registers as an RFED
- As expected OptionXpress has registered as an RFED with the CFTC and will soon become open for retail forex business. XPRESSTRADE, LLC (www.xtfx.com) is capitalized at $22,841,980 and already has $17,720 in retail forex customers obligations. OptionsXpress is the second 'traditional' broker to start offering retail foreign exchange after TradeStation.

ActForex will now offer integrated Binary Options in its platform
- Binary Options market is developing quite nicely lately with about 50-60 brands using software solutions from 5-6 development firms now live and looking to make a quick buck in this relatively new and unexploited market. For now new operators would have to turn to binary options software development firms who provided a complete solution for binaries, but not for forex. If they also wanted to offer forex they'd have to do quite a lot of customization for their offering and CRMs.

CFTC Charges Douglas Elsworth Wilson in Multi-Million Dollar Commodity Futures and Forex Scheme
- Washington, DC - The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today announced that on August 18, 2011 a federal court in California entered an order freezing the assets of defendants Douglas Elsworth Wilson of Poway, Calif., and three California companies that he controls and manages, Elsworth Berg Capital Management LLC (EBCM), Elsworth Berg Inc., and Elsworth Berg FX LLC (collectively, Elsworth Berg). The order also prohibits the destruction of their books and records.

Amendments to NFA's Forex Requirements Including NFA's Jurisdiction Over Members Engaging in Forex Activities
- Basically NFA here extends its grip on more retail forex market participants than now. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) recently approved a number of amendments to NFA Requirements that govern the retail forex activities of NFA Members. These amendments to NFA Bylaws 301 and 306, NFA Compliance Rules 2-10, 2-36 and 2-39, Code of Arbitration Section 1 and Interpretive Notices 9053, 9058 and 9060 will become effective October 1, 2011.

HotSpot reports record trading day in July and growth of 88% from same month last year
- It seems this summer's volatility is going to bring overall forex trading volume to record heights. Up until now most major brokers and liquidity providers/venues have reported higher volume than usual and we haven't seen the August data yet. HotSpot too is reporting a record month in July which saw its volumes up almost 100% from the same month last year.
