Bryan Micon, the operator of an unlicensed Bitcoin -powered poker site, has pleaded guilty to charges of operating an unlicensed interactive gaming system.
It is believed that the charges are the first in Nevada for an operation based solely on bitcoin.
Micon ran the site Seals with Clubs, shut down earlier this year, and allegedly attempted to acquire additional sites.
Nevadaโs Gaming Control Board first became aware of Seals with Clubs in August 2013, when a Belgian resident lodged a complaint about the site. Gaming agents surveilled skype conversions during which Micon allegedly claimed the site earns $10,000 to $12,000 monthly. They also conducted surveillance on his home and learned from his social media accounts that he referred to himself as โchairmanโ of Seals with Clubs.
He has reportedly fled to online gaming-haven Antigua. A warrant for Micon's arrest was recalled by a judge when he agreed to attend a court hearing. He potentially faced up to 10 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
In reaching a plea deal, he avoids jail time and is fined only $25,000, according to Vegas Inc. If he successfully completes probation, the charge will be lessened from a felony to a gross demeanor.
He also agreed to forfeit property seized when his home was raided, including $900 cash, 3.0996 bitcoin and electronic equipment.
