BitPay is making another foray into the world of sports, sponsoring Justin Boston of Kyle Busch Motorsports at this year's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Season opener in Daytona. The race is scheduled for two weeks from now.
In December, BitPay sponsored what was renamed as the Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl, aiming to raise awareness about Bitcoin. In their next choice for NASCAR, BitPay VP Marketing Stephanie Wargo commented:
"NASCAR is watched by millions of people all over the world. Through this exposure and working with Justin and KBM, we hope to help raise awareness about the bitcoin technology and our companyβs platform."
It is also the second major cryptocurrency-inspired sponsorship of a NASCAR driver. Last year, Dogecoin crowdfunded Josh Wise at Aaronβs 499 at Talladega, raising $55,000 through its Reddit community. Wise's car became the "dogecar."
BitPay, as the primary sponsor, will have the most visible branding on Boston's car.
Meanwhile, BitPay also published an infographic showing how 2014 was Bitcoin's biggest year yet (the infographic did not include price charts), and how 2015 holds much potential.
On several occasions, BitPay has sought to promote the industry in general when it publicizes its brand. In addition to the aforementioned examples, it branded the 2,000 sq ft World of Bitcoin at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
