Charlie Shrem gets relaxed terms of house arrest to enable employment pursuit

Charlie Shrem's lawyers have requested and been granted relaxed terms of house arrest for their client, according to a court document obtained by Coindesk. His movements would be restricted to within the five boroughs of New York and will be subject to tracking by GPS. He is only allowed to leave his residence between the hours of 9 am and 9 pm, Sunday through Thursday. He would pursue employment opportunities, which must be verified with authorities upon request.

The document shows Shrem's lawyers reiterating in writing an earlier phone discussion between them and court authorities, applying for a modification of house arrest conditions in order to allow Shrem to pursue employment opportunities, and apparent approval of the court of their request.

Curious is the Sunday-Thursday window, as Monday-Friday would be more fitting for employment hours.

Shrem was arrested in January on charges of Money Laundering , operating an unlicensed money transmitting business and deliberate failure to report suspicious activity.

Several weeks ago, Shrem pleaded not guilty to the charges. The trial is set to commence on September 22. The case was postponed after prosecutors requested more time in an effort to come to a plea deal.

Even while under complete house arrest, modern technology allowed Shrem to remain fairly active in the Bitcoin world. To much fanfare, he even addressed the Texas Bitcoin Conference in Austin, modelling his speech based on one from Rick Falkvinge, founder of the Pirate Party in Sweden.
