In an effort to educate investors about the growing market of cryptocurrency assets, Coinbase, one of the largest digital exchanges, recently announced its partnership with Seattle Storm, an American professional basketball team. Seattle Storm competes in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).
The details shared by the franchise show that the recent partnership is the first of its kind for a WNBA team. Additionally, the partnership has made Coinbase the official cryptocurrency platform of Seattle Storm.
“We are excited to partner with Coinbase and that they are joining our Force4Changes efforts,” Nate Silverman, Storm's SVP of Corporate Partnerships and Social Responsibility, commented. “Coinbase is investing in women’s sports, and we are thrilled that this partnership can showcase some exciting ways for fans to engage with the Coinbase and also drive positive change.”
Coinbase is a prominent sponsor in the global cryptocurrency market. The company’s ad during the half-time of the recent Super Bowl grabbed the attention of millions. The website of Coinbase received more than 20 million hits within 1 minute after the ad.
Cryptocurrency Sponsorships
In 2021, leading cryptocurrency firms invested billions of dollars in branding through a wide range of sports sponsorship activities. Last year, FTX and Crypto.com poured almost $1 billion in sponsorship deals. The recent partnership between Coinbase and Seattle Storm will allow the crypto platform to have a significant brand presence at Climate Pledge Arena.
“At Coinbase, we are dedicated to experiences that encourage fans to engage with the crypto economy because the best way to learn about crypto is by participating,” said Jessica Williams, the Director of Brand Partnerships at Coinbase. “Our partnership with the Seattle Storm is an opportunity to further both of our commitments to advancing economic freedom and educating fans and players in women’s sports around the benefits of web3.”
