Coinbase Takes over iOS App, to Release Update But "Current Version Is Already Quite Good"

Coinbase has revealed that it has acquired and taken over an iOS wallet app already developed for the company.

Until now, Coinbase's mobile apps were only available for Android.

Andrew Vilcsak, a mobile app developer, is credited with the work thus far. He used Coinbase's open source code to build the app, and the company has expressed its appreciation.

Details of the deal were not disclosed.

The company says that it will be continuing work on the app and will soon be releasing an updated version in the near future although "the current version is already quite good."

The addition of the app to arguably the world's leading mobile device will make it easier for Coinbase clients to send gifts of Bitcoin this holiday season. The company is promoting its service to send bitcoin along with a specialized greeting and the ability to buy some for those who don't yet own any.
