Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin wins IT Software award at World Technology Summit

The co-founder of Ethereum and Bitcoin Magazine, Vitalik Buterin, has won the IT Software award at the World Technology Summit on New York.

He beat out 40 other nominees and 4 other finalists, which included Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, for the award.

Ethereum, according to its website, is "a platform and a programming language that makes it possible for any developer to build and publish next-generation distributed applications." One of its highly anticipated uses is for smart contracts and decentralized exchange. Its code was recently adapted by Counterparty in an effort to allow users to create their own smart contracts. Earlier this year, Ethereum secured millions for its project through the crowdfunding of its native token, ether.

The Summit was presented at the Time & Life Building in New York last week. According to its website, the World Technology Network (WTN) is "a curated membership community comprised of the world's most innovative individuals and organizations in science, technology, and related fields."
