GHOSTed: John McAfee Breaks Up and Rejoins with His Privacy Coin Project

John McAfee, the cybersecurity pioneer and cryptocurrency commentator who founded the computer security company that bears his name, has just announced that he will no longer be associated with the privacy asset project he started in April, known as Ghost.

"I am abandoning the Ghost project," he said on Twitter on August 19th, adding that "management is incapable of making a success of the project,” and that “it will, without a doubt fail."

McAfee’s decision to abandon the project seems rather abrupt: just one week ago, McAfee was publicly singing the project’s praises on Twitter: on August 13th, he wrote that “I have labored my entire life to reach the point where I could produce an Ecosystem as powerful and groundbreaking as the Ghost Exchange, the Ghost coin and the Ghost phone[…] $GHOST is the future.”

A Bad Breakup, McAfee Style

McAfee elaborated a bit on his decision, saying that he was deeply disappointed with the project’s management team.

“I tried to explain the fundamental principles of management, but they fell on deaf ears. My apologies to those that I led astray. Sorry,” he wrote. He also called one of the project’s team leads “an idiot”; on the project’s Telegram channel, a representative of the Ghost team called McAfee a “loose cannon.”

Additionally, McAfee said that he would be removing his two-month-old Ghost tattoo that he got in honor of the project.

The price of GHOST tokens that were associated with the project has plummeted as a result of the announcement. At press time, the value of the asset had fallen 49.95 percent in the last 24 hours, from $0.61 to $0.31.

Ghost Will Continue Operations despite McAfee's Exodus

Although McAfee’s decision to exit the Ghost project may seem disastrous in the short term, a representative of the Ghost team explained on the project’s Telegram channel that the project is looking to the future.

“GHOST is an open source decentralized project. John can help market GHOST to his network or doesn't have to, but that does not effect the GHOST Blockchain whatsoever,” the representative wrote, adding that “John is in no way involved in any day to day operations, nor has he ever been involved with any of the tech or building of GHOST."

UPDATE: McAfee Rejoins Ghost

In true John McAfee style of unpredictability and Volatility , John rejoined Ghost in October 2020, giving his blessing and support to the Ghost project
