OldPirateBay Offering $100K, Bitcoin Rewards for Developers, Moderators and Uploaders

OldPirateBay is looking to build upon its impressive success, offering cash rewards to developers, moderators and uploaders.

The site's predecessor, Pirate Bay, was a highly popular online index of digital content. The content can be shared via BitTorrent, a p2p file sharing protocol. The procurement and sharing of such content most often involves infringing upon anti-piracy laws.

The Sweden-based site was shut down in December following a police raid; several of those involved with it had been arrested over the months and years prior to the shutdown.

The replacement, OldPirateBay, has reportedly surpassed its predecessor's performance according to Google rankings. It is attracting millions of visitors per day, and may even remain online should its predecessor be resurrected.

$100,000 in rewards are being offered to those helping to enrich the site experience. Part of the prize, paid as bitcoins, will be divided among developers in a contest for contributing the best features. From March 1 onward, the site will also have moderation and upload capabilities, and moderators will divide $5,000 in bitcoins per month.
