Peercoin to Boldly Go Where No Coin Has Gone Before at Star Trek Convention

The Star Trek convention coming to Springfield, Missouri, also known as "Trek Con Springfield", will be the largest such event of its kind to accept digital currency for tickets, merchandise and vendor demonstrations. But it won't be Bitcoin - it's Peercoin this time. Tickets can be purchased online at coinpayments.net.

What's more is that the first 2000 attendees will receive one free Peercoin- a value of roughly $3.

Gracing the convention with their presence will be several of the celebrities associated with the Star Trek series.

The event's organizer, Lawrence Blankenship, is a strong supporter of alternative cryptos to Bitcoin, having mined Infinitecoin and developing a computer game that will accept Nxt (recently added to Cryptsy after a long wait). He has declared that next year, "any coin will be accepted".

Blankenship is concerned about Bitcoin's increasing "entropy", or difficulty to mine, and foresees that this will ultimately cause its user base to diminish over time, which in turn will bring its value down. One may argue, however, that mining difficulty can lead to a relative shortage in coin supply, thereby driving prices higher, and that coin usability is predominantly linked to ease of coin procurement and transfer, not ease of mining.

Peercoin has gradually gained more trading opportunity, available for trading with fiat on Vault of Satoshi, and most recently, FXOpen. It is unique coin in that it employs both proof-of-work and proof-of-stake Cryptography .

Many will argue that it is fitting for a next generation event to garner support through next generation currencies.
