Bitcoin exchange CEX.IO has just added Ethereum support to its selected lineup of Cryptocurrencies . The firm announced today that it launched both ETH/BTC and ETH/USD for trading to its members, as well as a "buy Ether" feature. In addition to just trading, CEX.IO notified its clients that they can now simply buy Ether coins directly with cards by Visa or MasterCard, or via bank transfers.
The exchange explains the decision to add Ethereum support as its overall market capitalization is around $600,000,000 and ETH average market price is about $8, "which is many times higher than most altcoins on the network." This move shows that the second biggest cryptocurrency is still gaining ground with Bitcoin exchanges despite receding from a high of $15 last month for a total market cap of over a billion dollars to a price below $7.9 right now (including a drop of 28% just in the past week).
The UK-headquartered cryptocurrencies exchange CEX.io officially entered the US market a year ago. It obtained licensing as a Money Services Business (MSB) with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), allowing US customers to make fiat deposits and withdrawals. The exchange, operated by the same entity as the Ghash.io mining pool, provides for the trading of several cryptocurrencies. USD, EUR and RUB are the supported fiat currencies.
