Clare Francis Joins CMC Markets' Board as a Non-Executive Director

London-based CMC Markets plc added finance veteran Clare Francis to its Board as a Non-Executive Director. She has already assumed the role on 19 December 2022.

Apart from joining as a Non-Executive Director, Francis was appointed the Chair of the Group Risk Committee, the Consumer Duty Champion, and a member of CMC's Audit, Nomination, and Remuneration Committees.

Francis is a financial industry expert with about 37 years of experience working in several major companies.

Saxo Bank Names Mads Dorf Petersen as Permanent CFO

On Thursday, Denmark-headquartered Saxo Bank announced the appointment of Mads Dorf Petersen as the permanent Group Chief Financial Officer. He has held the same role at an interim level since October, replacing Mette Ingeman Pedersen.

Petersen is a long-term executive at Saxo, spending about 14 years there. Before taking up the CFO role, Petersen was the Head of Commercial Finance at Saxo. He joined the company in March 2009 as the Head of Business Planning and Analysis and later took up other leadership roles.

SWIFT’s Vikesh Patel to Lead Cboe Clear Europe as President in 2023

Cboe Global Markets has appointed Vikesh Patel as the new President of Cboe Clear Europe. Patel will take on the role of leading the pan-European clearing house in early 2023, Cboe said in a statement released on Wednesday.

Patel, who boasts of over 15 years of work experience in the financial infrastructure market, replaces Cécile Nagel, who resigned from the role earlier in September. Since Nagel’s resignation, Arnoud Siegmann, Cboe’s Chief Operating Officer, has been serving as the Interim President at Cboe Clear Europe.

OKX Hires EXMO’s Maria Stankevich as Director of Institutional Sales

OKX, a Seychelles-based cryptocurrency spot and derivatives exchange, hired Maria Stankevich as its Director of Institutional Sales for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Stankevich left her role at EXMO this month after five years of serving as the Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO).

The communications, management and business development executive announced her new role on Wednesday on Linkedin. Stankevich has been a Policy Advisor to CryptoUK, a trade body representing the digital asset sector in the United Kingdom, since August 2020.

Monex Europe Hires Tim Philip as Global Operations Director

Monex Europe announced on Wednesday the hiring of Tim Philip as the Global Operations Director, thus enhancing its leadership team. Philip will be based in London and report directly to the CEO, Nick Edgeley.

In the new role, Philip will oversee the firm’s operations, projects and legal teams across six countries: the United Kingdom, Spain, The Netherlands, Canada, Luxembourg and Singapore. His focus will be on implementing operational best practices and driving strategic thinking.

CySEC's Dr Theocharides Becomes Chair of ESMA's Risk Standing Committee

Dr George Theocharides, the Chairman of CySEC, has taken additional responsibilities as the first Chair of the Risk Standing Committee, which is a part of ESMA. His tenure will last for two years, from 1 January 2023 until 31 December 2024.

The RSC is the successor of the Committee for Economic and Markets Analysis, and Dr Theocharides has been serving as the Chair of that standing committee since March 2022.

The role of the RSC is to monitor developments in the financial markets, assess systemic risks and provide economic background analysis for the general tasks of ESMA. Further, the committee's responsibilities extend to risk analysis related to consumers, ESG, innovation and other emerging issues.

Michael Logue Rejoins IG, Takes Up Head of Product and Marketing Role

Michael Logue has rejoined the London offices of IG Group after spending a year at tastytrade. He has now been appointed as IG's Head of Product and Marketing for Europe.

Last January, he joined tastytrade as the Vice President of Growth on a temporary basis. He intended to hold onto the temporary role for six months but ended up spending a year there. IG closed the $1 billion acquisition of tastytrade in June last year to expand into the US options trading market.

He has been a part of IG for about eleven years. He joined the broker as a Revenue Analyst in January 2012 and has climbed the corporate ladder over the years.

Century Financial Promotes Mahmoud Elaref to VP Private Wealth

Century Financial has promoted Mahmoud Elaref from Senior Financial Analyst to Vice President of Private Wealth. The promotion comes over five years after Elaref joined the privately-owned firm.

The financial analyst, who has spent about 16 years working in roles based in Cairo, Egypt and Dubai, announced his promotion on Monday on LinkedIn.

Before joining Century Financial, Elaref was a Relationship Manager at Hantec Markets. He spent almost two years in the role, driving new sales for the online forex and CFD trading firm.

Bloomberg Elevates Paula Fry to Global Head of Fixed Income, FX Trading Liquidity

Bloomberg has promoted Paula Fry to the role of Global Head of Fixed Income and FX Trading Liquidity from similar previous responsibilities but only for the EMEA. She has already taken over the new London-based duties.

Fry has been working for Bloomberg over the last seven years. She joined the company in October 2015 in a role at London-based FXGO Sales, covering the buy-side of the city’s FX markets. Over the years, she climbed the ranks in the company, holding positions, including Multi-Asset Execution Services, Fixed Income Buyside Sales and EMEA Head of eFX Sales.

ActivTrades Promotes Vikesh Purohit to UK and DACH Head

ActivTrades has promoted Vikesh Kumar Purohit to the Head of the UK and DACH Markets. He is based in London and has already taken over the new role and responsibilities.

Purohit received the promotion after spending more than three years at the brokerage. He joined ActivTrades in October 2019 and was a Senior Account Manager before the promotion. In addition, he spent about three years with the broker in a sales-related role between October 2014 and August 2017.

His experience in the online trading industry spans over a decade. He entered the sector with a role at IG, a major London-based brand providing counterparty trading services. There, he worked only for six months on IG's trading services desk for Germany, providing customers calculations to demonstrate key features of several trading types.

ASX Names Daniel Moran as Permanent Compliance Chief

Australian Securities Exchange Ltd (ASX) announced on Monday the appointment of Daniel Moran as the Chief Compliance Officer in a permanent capacity, effective from 1 January 2023. He has been acting in the role of CCO since October 2022, after the stepdown of Janine Ryan.

As well as assuming the CCO role in a permanent capacity, Moran resigned as the Company Secretary of ASX, a position he has held for the last five years. According to his Linkedin profile, he became ASX’s Group General Counsel and Company Secretary in November 2017.
