Doto, a provider of financial and investment solutions for retail and corporate clients, has appointed Maria Markidou, an industry veteran with 14 years of experience, as its Executive Director.
The company announced Markidou’s appointment in a statement shared with Finance Magnates on Monday. However, Markidou’s Linkedin profile shows she resumed the Cyprus-based role earlier in September 2022.
Markidou was previously the Regional Director at FXOpen EU Limited, which was previously AMB Prime before its acquisition by the retail and institutional forex broker, FXOpen. Markidou co-led the acquisition process of AMB Prime. She also spearheaded all of FXOpen’s European operations.
She served as the Executive Director and Head of Dealing Own Accounts at FXOpen EU for over eight years starting February 2014. During this period, “she was instrumental in managing the operations of the company as well as establishing the broker’s dealing department and overseeing the regulatory reporting and risk management functions,” Doto explained in the press statement.
Markidou in a career spanning over a decade has also worked for Skopalino Finance Limited as the Head of Executive of Orders, Alpari FS Limited as a Services Provider and as a Research Fellow at the Cyprus University of Technology. Between November 2005 and December 2008, she was a Senior Financial Dealer and Own Account Supervisor at Windsor Brokers Limited.
Markidou’s Mission
Doto as an online broker currently possesses licenses to operate in key global markets in the European Union, Asia and South Africa. Last week, Dr Demetrios Zamboglou, the Chief Executive Officer of Doto Group, told Finance Magnates that the company “will serve both developed and emerging markets equally.”
On Markidou’s appointment, Zamboglou, who was appointed to the Group CEO recently, noted that the former FXOpen executive will be directly responsible for boosting the company’s online trading offering. Zamboglou, who is also a Visiting Professor in Finance at the Rome Business School, added that Markidou possesses “a significant knowledge and understanding of the financial services industry.”
“Maria’s extensive experience in retail and institution foreign exchange adds significant value to the company and is a huge boost for our global aspirations,” the Group CEO said.
Markidou, in her contribution, said that she was looking forward to working with the team to lead the company’s retail business toward becoming a “significant industry player.”
The executive noted that Doto already “has a strong foundation” despite its relative newness to the industry. She added that she will help the company harness its “several key advantages” towards becoming a leading service provider.
“I am honoured to join the Doto Group of Companies and excited to embark on a global fintech project with Doto,” Markidou said.
