Edgewater Markets continues to strengthen its leadership team with the latest hiring of Andreas Cifuentes, an executive with almost twenty years of industry experience, as its new Global Head of Liquidity. Cifuentes was previously the Head of Electronic Trading at BitGo.

Edgewater, which provides technology, trade execution and liquidity aggregation for the foreign exchange (FX) and precious metals industries, announced Cifuentes’ selection on Monday in a press statement.

Cifuentes to Lead Edgewater's Liquidity Group, Support Expansion

Cifuentes joins Edgewater with years of experience from working in senior roles across top financial organizations. He served as the Director of FX Sales at Bats Global Markets (now Cboe Global Markets) between 2016 and 2019. At Morgan Stanley, he first served as the Vice President of FX Prime Brokerage between 2009 and 2013 and later as the Vice President of FX Sales between 2013 and 2016. On top of that, he held senior roles at JP Morgan Chase and Goldman Sachs between May 2004 and September 2009.

Speaking in the press statement, Edgewater said the executive will lead its global forex, non-deliverable forward and precious metals liquidity group. Moreover, he is expected to provide support to the company’s expansion into new asset classes. Cifuentes’ role is based in Edgewater’s headquarters in Connecticut in the United States.

“I’m excited to be joining Edgewater during a time of tremendous global expansion. I have worked closely with the Edgewater team for many years, and long appreciated the unique blend of cutting-edge technology and regional expertise that sets them apart,” Cifuentes said in the statement.

Also speaking about the appointment, Matt Kassel, Edgewater’s Chief Operating Officer (CP0), noted that the company hired Cifuentes to further its expansion plan. This is even as the company opened a new office in São Paulo in Brazil late last month. Kassel added that the executive will lead the integration of the company’s processes to best serve its clients across the world.

“Andres’ extensive experience at the world’s top financial firms, and his deep background in tech and FX, make him the perfect person to lead this mission,” the CPO added.

The new appointment comes days after the company tapped forex veteran Chan Chong San as its Managing Director (MD) for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. Chan brings over three decades of experience to the new role.
