Crypto exchange AAX on Wednesday has announced the appointment of Michael Newell as the advisor of the company.

Newell is a fintech veteran and is bringing around 14 years of experience to his new position.

He is a former chief technology officer at IG Group and also serviced the company as its chief operating officer. Prior to that, he founded and led his own online investment management company called InvestYourWay for around four years, which was then acquired by IG Group, along with Newell UK-registered robo advisory.

He also worked at Bat Global Markets for four years in two different positions - head of business and product development, and account manager - after his role at the London Stock Exchange as a technical account of manager. Newell started his career at IBM and later switched to Goldman Sachs as a technical analyst.

Commenting on the new role, Newell said: “AAX is the first company I had seen entering the digital asset exchange space with a truly institutional-grade offering. Powered by London Stock Exchange Group Technology, and with a management team that has a firm grasp of the challenges facing large institutions, I believe AAX is poised for success, and I’m delighted to be a part of it.”

The Hong Kong-based exchange is aiming to Leverage Newell’s experience “to deliver a fully compliant, high-performing, and trusted venue for its retail and institutional investors.”

AAX made headlines earlier this year when it announced that it would use London Stock Exchange’s the trade-matching technology in its cryptocurrency exchange.

“We are privileged that Michael is joining AAX. He brings with him significant experience and knowledge of building robust, compliant and liquid markets, and we look forward to his counsel as we develop our platform,” Peter Lin, founder and CEO at AAX, added.
