ANZ has announced that it has appointed Mark Whelan to its Board, broadening his role as its acting Managing Director, Global Commercial Banking in a bid to help foster continued growth in Australia.
Mr. Whelan is presently the Managing Director, Commercial Banking – Australia for ANZ, though his new appointment has extended his scope of responsibilities that will make him in charge of ANZ’s global commercial segment. This includes, long-term growth strategies, Connectivity with commercial clients that spans thirty-three countries, and the fortification of the group’s digital infrastructure.
According to ANZ Group Chief Executive Officer, Mike Smith in a recent statement on the appointment, “as trade and investment flows in the Asia Pacific region continue to grow, we are seeing a significant expansion of medium-sized corporates doing business with and within Asia.”
“This continues to be an important growth opportunity for ANZ and coordination of the segment fits well with Mark’s existing responsibility for Commercial Australia, our largest Commercial client franchise,” Smith added.
Mr. Whelan has been with ANZ since 2004, having previously served as Managing Director at the group’s Institutional, Commercial, and Private Banking sectors in the Asia Pacific (APAC), a European, and American region. Prior to this he also worked at Citi and Westpac.
