Barclays, a British multinational investment bank, announced this Tuesday that it has appointed Alex Shterenberg as Global Head of G10 and EM eFX (electronic foreign Exchange ) Trading.

Shterenberg joins Barclays with more than two decades worth of experience in the industry. In his new role, he will be based in New York and will be responsible for heading the firm’s electronic FX trading business globally.

Most recently, Shterenberg was employed at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Here, he was the Global Head of FX Algorithmic Execution and Head of eFX Trading for the Americas. In this position, he steered the development of pricing and hedging models. He also led the creation of FX algorithmic products.

Commenting on the appointment, Fabio Madar, Global Head of G10 Foreign Exchange Trading and Distribution, said: “Alex is one of the most innovative eFX trading professionals in the industry and brings extensive market and technical knowledge as well as client understanding to the role."

Before working at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Shterenberg was instead employed at another top-tier investment bank, JP Morgan. At the firm, he was again a Global Head, this time of FX Execution Services.

As the Global Head of FX Execution Services at JP Morgan, Shterenberg was in charge of designing and putting in place new algorithms, models and tools. Prior to working at the company, he was a senior consultant and developer at Broadway Technology, a provider of financial trading solutions for the electronic fixed income, foreign exchange, and cryptocurrency markets.

Earlier in his career, he also worked at UBS, another Wall Street bank. At the Swiss multinational investment bank, Shterenberg was employed in Equities Market Data and Trade Execution Technology.
