Finance Magnates has learned that Anupama Agarwal, formerly of Barclays, has joined BNP Paribas’ New York office as a Director in its FX division.
Information on Agarwal’s LinkedIn account indicates that she started in her new role at the start of this month.
Reporting by FX Week indicates that she will be working in the French bank’s FX hedge fund sales department in the US.
In her new role, Agarwal will be reporting to BNP Paribas veteran Luis Berlfein.
The Brazilian was the French Bank’s Managing Director and Head of Global Markets Latin America (LATAM) Sales for over ten years.
He relocated to New York from Sao Paulo in 2015, staying in his LATAM role but also working on FXLM and commodities derivatives.
In May of this year, Berlfein was promoted again - this time to Head of Foreign Exchange , Local Markets and Commodities Derivatives for the Americas.
From Barclays to BNP
Given her past experience, Berlfein will likely be pleased to have Agarwal joining his team.
After graduating with a degree in computer science from Delhi University, Agarwal moved to Singapore in 2005 to work in Barclays FX sales division.
Starting on FX and Emerging Markets Sales, Agarwal moved to the British bank’s New York office in 2010 and took up a new role.
More specifically, she became a Director, working in Macro Sales, and was catering to hedge funds’ demands - a role similar to the one she has now taken up at BNP Paribas.
Agarwal held that role - and stayed in the Big Apple - until her departure from Barclays last month.
