Voice, the decentralized media platform of Block.one, has announced on Thursday the appointment of Salah Zalatimo as its new chief executive officer (CEO).

The Blockchain company poached Zalatimo from Forbes, where he held the position of the chief digital officer. He joined the media company in 2015 following the acquisition of his Startup Camerama and was appointed as the vice president of products initially.

With a background in economics and management, he started his career at Bain and Co. and also worked for Sony Music Entertainment, and consultancy firm McKinsey.

Commenting on his new experience and new role, Zalatimo said: “I’ve spent my entire career in digital media driving innovation by helping major content creators harness the newest technologies as competitive advantages.”

“Blockchain is becoming a clear driver of digital media product innovation, and Voice’s tokenized design presents a fundamentally better way of empowering content creators and participants; a new generation of decentralized media is on the horizon.”

Trying to decentralize the existing platforms

Block.one is known for rising above $4 billion for its blockchain platform EOS, thus becoming the largest initial coin offering (ICO) in the market. The company dived into the content business last year and poured $150 million on the new platform - Voice. The domain name alone cost the company $30 million.

The announcement also detailed that the decentralized content platform is set to roll out its public beta version on February 14.

“Salah is a rare combination of product and media talent enriched by an entrepreneurial past. His experience in creating state-of-the-art content monetization and publishing tools makes him uniquely qualified to lead Voice,” said Brendan Blumer, CEO of Block.one.

“As users enter an era of being rewarded for their contributions to social networks, we believe it’s also important to focus on equipping creators with tools used by the world’s most successful journalists.”
