BNY Mellon, a US worldwide banking and financial services company, has showcased its shifting focus to its Indian-based operations after announcing today that it has chosen Bhargavi Nuvvula to lead its Corporate Technology organization - a leadership role that previously sat in the US.
The appointment is a clear indicator that India is evolving from a remote Technology Provider to one of the several top talent technology hubs for BNY Mellon across the world. In her new position, Nuvvula will be based in Pune, India and will report to Nitin Chandel, the Head of BNY Mellon Technology, India.

Before joining the US-based bank, Nuvvula was most recently working at American Express India. Here she was the Head of Technology. Prior to this, she has also held technology roles in senior positions at globally recognized companies, Amazon and Microsoft.
She also has a number of educational qualifications under her belt. She has earnt her master's degree with a major in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University in the United States. Before this, she achieved a Bachelor of Science, majoring in electrical and electronics engineering from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University. Currently, Nuvvula is working towards her Ph.D. at JNTU Hyderabad, which focuses on computer science.
Commenting on the appointment, Chandel said: “Bhargavi is a proven leader in the technology sector who will further strengthen the caliber of our talent and team in India. She has also been a strong voice and advocate in encouraging women in technology. This passion will complement and support our priority for fostering diversity throughout our technology organization in India.”

Throughout her career, Nuvvula has gained more than 20 years worth of experience in results-driven roles, with these years spent at major global brands. She has come to earn the good-natured nickname of “chief disrupter” and has led global teams in efforts to solve complex business problems.
At present, it seems that BNY Mellon is going through a hiring spree, with Nuvvula being the third professional to join the bank this month. At the beginning of October, Finance Magnates reported that both Sabet Elias had been appointed Chief Technology Officer and Jonathan Lee had joined the firm as a trader in the American banking giant’s foreign Exchange (FX) division.
