A senior appointment has been made by Citigroup, as it just promoted Grant Carson as the head of its Global Subsidiaries Group (GSG) for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), which are geographical regions with many of the company’s biggest clients, according to coverage by Reuters.
Mr. Carson is currently listed as deputy president for Citigroup in Japan since October 2014 and a board member of Citi Cards Japan Ltd, as well as Head of Consumer Banking for the company's business in Japan. He will take on the new role as Head of GSG for the regions across EMEA in July 2016, as per the update.
From Japan back to EMEA
He will be relocating to London, subject to customary visa and regulatory approvals, according to an internal staff memo cited by Reuters earlier this Monday, as part of the plan.

Citigroup’s GSG business handles many of the group’s large multinational corporations that fall under related subsidiaries within the GSG array of businesses globally.
As part of the promotion, Mr. Carson will join the GSG executive committee and will report to the division’s head Marc Merlino.
Prior expertise
Prior to his current role as deputy President of Citibank Japan and related concurrent positions, as per a LinkedIn profile, Mr. Carson had been based in Athens as Citigroup’s Country Officer for Greece, and Cyprus for a span of three years and three months through August 2014.
In addition, Mr. Carson was previously based in London, while holding the role of Managing Director and head of International Personal Banking for the EMEA region, and as head of offshore wealth management for Citi during a span of 3 years and 10 months starting September 2007.
This prior experience in the EMEA region may have helped him become the most logical candidate for the senior executive move. Moreover, Mr. Carson has held numerous other positions in finance both within Citi and at outside firms during the course of his career spanning from 1993 and after starting in South Africa where he attended school.
