Citigroup (NYSE:C) has made a new senior hire to its Saudi Arabian business, part of a bourgeoning effort to reaffirm its presence in the Middle Eastern country – Carmen Haddad has been tapped as the Head of its Citigroup Saudi Arabia, according to a Bloomberg report.

Her new role will pave the way for he appointment as Citi Saudi Arabia’s Chief Executive Officer, following the entity’s securing of a banking license from domestic regulatory authorities. She presently is responsible for Citigroup’s strategy and business development for Saudi Arabia.

Ms. Haddad has been with Citigroup or one of its subsidiaries for over seventeen years, having originally joined the lender back in 2000 as its Gulf, Egypt, and Levant Head at Citi Private Bank. Since then, she has worked in a variety of senior level roles for the group, including stints as the co-Chair of Citi’s Women Network since 2013.

Additionally, she was promoted to CEO of Citibank Qatar in 2013, helping manage its business with regional product and process partners. In this capacity she has also helped coordinate country plans, acquisitions, and other business segments, according to information made public on her Linkedin profile.

Despite the promotion, Ms. Haddad will retain her responsibilities as a senior private banker in the Gulf Cooperation Council region, Egypt and the Levant.
