Coinbase announced that it has secured Christian Sabella as its new Senior Director and Associate General Counsel of the Exchange ’s capital markets division, effective immediately.

Finance Magnates recently learned that Christian Sabella, an executive veteran in the fintech industry, has been named by Coinbase, a US-based Cryptocurrency Exchange , as its new Senior Director and Associate General Counsel of the exchange’s capital markets division.

Sabella brings fifteen years of experience in the fintech industry to the new role located in the Washington DC-Baltimore area. He will lead the exchange’s legal work on capital markets. The announcement was made by Paul Grewal, the chief legal officer at Coinbase, on Monday.

Reviewing Sabella’s Vocational Background

Prior to the announcement, Sabella served the US Securities and Exchange Commission for more than a decade. His last position was the Deputy Director for the Division of Trading and Markets where he served for three years.

Additionally, in the same division at the US SEC, he fulfilled many other roles. From Apr 2015, he took on the responsibilities of the role of Associate Director of the Office of Clearance and Settlement. He had received a promotion from the earlier post of Senior Special Counsel to the Director of the Division of Trading and Markets where he spent almost two years. He first started with the US SEC as a Branch Chief for the Office of Trading Practices back in January 2011, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Before his time with the US SEC, Shearman and Sterling LLP recruited Sabella as a Senior Associate. For more than six years, he specialised in over-the-counter derivatives and structured financing for both its New York and Singapore offices.
