Diginex, a Blockchain and digital services platform, announced on Thursday the appointment of Chi-Won Yoon, a former UBS Group AG executive, as its chairman of Asia.
Yoon is a veteran of the financial industry and is bringing over three decades of experience in the blockchain company.
Commenting on his new role at the blockchain company, Yoon stated: “Digital assets and blockchain technology have huge potential for growth over the next decade and Diginex is a pioneer in this space. I am very excited to join the business in this critical part of its growth.”
Prior to this role, Yoon retired from the position of vice president at UBS last year after serving the company for 22 years. He was responsible for developing and enhancing long-term strategic relationships at the investment bank.
He also served the investment bank as its president and chief executive for Asia-Pacific and was a member of the Swiss bank’s board for seven years - from 2009 to 2015.
Expansion into Asian markets
The announcement also highlighted that Yoon oversaw the investment bank’s business in 13 countries, which will help the blockchain firm to attain partners and investors throughout Asia.
Apart from UBS, Yoon's portfolio also includes roles in Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch.
“We are delighted to have Chi-Won join us at this important juncture of Diginex’s evolution. His vast and impressive career has meant Chi-Won has decades of experience in a multitude of dynamic operating environments. His wisdom and operating experience will be invaluable as we expand our financial services offering,” Miles Pelham, chairman of Diginex, said.
Diginex also made other key appointments recently as it is planning for a Nasdaq listing through a reverse Merger with 8i Enterprises.
Just a month before, the company hired Jim Pollock, a former Merrill Lynch CFO, as its chief operating officer, and also on-boarded Vicki Tan to oversee compliance.
