Finance Magnates has learned that retail FX industry veteran Emmanouil Lemonakis has parted ways with Saxo Bank to join Payments firm IbanFirst, ending more than a decade of tenure with the Danish multi-asset trading and investment specialist.

Mr. Lemonakis led the group's CEE and MENA, having also been promoted to the role of Head of Private Business in Saxo Bank - he also held the position at the same time as his role as its Head of CEE and MENA. He is a seasoned expert in FX retail market with over 10 yearsโ experience, including at senior roles such as CEO of Saxo Bank Greece and COO of Saxo Bank Cyprus.
Emmanouil began his financial career at Saxo in 2006 where he was originally appointed as Team Leader responsible for the sales department in southern European countries including France, Italy, Holland Belgium, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece and Cyprus.
He subsequently became Senior Manager Vice Head of Saxo Bank Italy, followed by a stint in Athens where he helped to establish Greeceโs office and was chosen to head the branch due to his solid expertise in the Greek and south European market.
Emmanouil earned his degree from Anglia Ruskin University in the United Kingdom and also has an MBA in international management from Copenhagen Business School.
Founded in 2013 by Pierre-Antoine Dusoulier, who was also former head of western Europe at Saxo Bank, IbanFirst offers an online multi-currency platform in Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) mode which it calls an alternative to banks.
The company is regulated and licensed by the National Bank of Belgium, with licences passported across Europe. The startup was previously known as FX4BIZ, and back in October 2016 raised $11 million from Xavier Niel and others to go further than being a foreign Exchange service.
