Eurex Clearing, part of the Deutsche Börse Group, has expanded its Buy-Side sales team with the appointment of Nick Barnes as the Senior Vice President for Sales and Relationship Management.

Barnes’ appointment will be effective from March 1, 2020, and he will be based in the Group’s operations in London. In his new position, he will be focusing on Eurex Clearing’s buy-side initiative.

As part of his role, Barnes will report to Jonathan Lombardo, Head of Fixed Income Derivatives Funding & Financing Sales, Northern Europe. The European Sales team is led by Frank Gast, while Philip Simons heads Fixed Income Sales globally.

Career before Eurex

Barnes takes on this new role with Eurex after one and a half years with MarketAxess, his LinkedIn states. At the operator of an institutional electronic Trading Platform , he worked in Repo Sales and Business Development.

Before he was at MarketAxess, Barnes was a Consultant at Skadi Limited for almost four years, based in London. He also had a nearly two-year stint at interdealer broker TP ICAP, where he was a Repo and IRS broker, his LinkedIn shows.

According to his profile, Barnes started off his career in the financial industry at British bank Barclays Capital. Specifically, he joined the firm in 1997 as a trading assistant for the UST desk, where he worked for three years and seven months.

From here, he moved on to become a Repo/Funding trading for Barclays Capital Strategic Advisors in February of 2001 and stayed in this role until January of 2006. Towards the end of his career with the British bank, he also held the role of fixed income salesperson, and his final position was a repo and funding trader for Barclays Capital, lasting until April of 2013.

Barnes’ appointment comes just under a month after the Exchange Council of Eurex Deutschland, who is responsible for the appointment, dismissal, and supervision of the management board, re-elected Carola Gräfin von Schmettow, CEO of HSBC Germany, as chairperson and Lutz Johanning as Deputy Chairman.
