Gemini Trust Company, LLC, a cryptocurrency exchange and custodian, has managed to secure David Damato as its Chief Security Officer (CSO), the company announced this Monday.

In this new role, Damato will be in charge of the Exchange ’s security program. He joins the company with more than two decades worth of experience in security leadership and will report directly to Gemini's Chief Executive Officer, Tyler Winklevoss.

Commenting on the appointment, Tyler Winklevoss said: "Security is the bedrock of our culture, and Dave adds to that legacy. His depth of security knowledge and his experience defending global networks will be invaluable as we continue to build the market's most secure cryptocurrency offering."

Damato joins Gemini from Tanium

Damato joins the crypto firm, which has been actively expanding its senior management over the past year, from Tanium, where he was also the CSO. He joined the world's most valuable privately-held Cybersecurity company in June of 2015 until leaving this month, his LinkedIn states.

During his time at Tanium, Damato was responsible for both leading and building the company’s security team that built security systems provided to protect government agencies, banks, and Fortune 500 companies.

In his career, Damato was also an early member of the leadership team at Mandiant, a cybersecurity firm that was acquired by FireEye. Initially joining the firm in 2010 as a Manager, he went on to become a Director in 2011 and Managing Director in 2013, until leaving the firm in 2015.

Damato also spent more than four years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he first an associate and worked his way up to a Manager in PricewaterhouseCoopers' Washington Federal Practice (WFP).

During his career, he has also been a Network Engineer at Raytheon, an Advisory Board Member, Computer and Digital Forensics at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and an Advisory Board Member for Remediant and Exabeam, his LinkedIn states.
