HKEX Names New Head of Post-Trade Business Development

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) announced this Thursday that it has secured a new Head of Post-Trade Business Development, Clearing - Cindy Chen. In her new role, she will report to Calvin Tai, the Joint Chief Operating Officer and Head of Clearing.

Established in the middle of this year, the Post-Trade development team at HKEX is responsible for leading and developing the Exchange operator’s offering in the post-trade environment across equities, fixed income and currency markets.

In her new position, Chen will lead this team. She will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities and working with HKEX’s stakeholder base to develop its clearing services, the statement said.

Furthermore, she will also be in charge of the oversight of HKEX’s Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) project. This is a Blockchain -powered post-trade allocation and processing platform.

Commenting on the appointment, Tai said: "We are delighted to welcome Cindy to HKEX. Her considerable expertise, knowledge of Hong Kong and international financial markets and her proven track record in business development will be of immense value to us as we look to further develop our post trade business. I know she will be a very valuable addition to the team.”

Chen joins HKEX from Citi Hong Kong where she was most recently employed as the Head of Securities Services. During her career, she has managed to gain more than two decades worth of experience with Citi in Capital Markets and Securities and Fund Services in both Hong Kong and New York.

Not only does Chen have a lot of work experience under her belt, but she also has a number of educational qualifications to her name. Specifically, she holds a Bachelors and Masters degree from Cornell University in the United States. She also has a Financial Engineering Certification from the Cornell Johnson Management School of Business and Cornell Graduate School of Engineering.
