Mizuho Americas, part of Japan-based Mizuho Financial Group, has expanded its technology sector focus for its US equity research team with the appointments of two new Managing Directors, James Lee and Tom McCrohan, according to a Mizuho statement.

Mr. Lee will join Mizuho Americas as its Managing Director and Senior Internet Sector Analyst, whilst based out of Boston. He joins the group from CLSA, where he served in a similar role covering the global internet space, with an emphasis on the US and China. Overall, he has worked for over a decade in Chinese and US media, technology, telecom and IT consulting sector research, with stops at Sterne Agee, W.R. Hambrecht/AGC, Fidelity Capital Markets, and UBS.
Tom McCrohan also steps into a new role as a Managing Director, covering financial technology and Payments companies as a Senior Analyst in New York. He also joins Mizuho Americas from CLSA, which saw him cover financial technology and payments companies as a senior analyst for over a decade. Both Mr. Lee and Mr. McCrohan will be reporting to Mizuho’s Managing Director and Head of US Equity Research, Sheryl Skolnick.
Expanding Focus
According to Matt DeSalvo, Head of Equities at Mizuho Americas, in a statement on the appointments: "We are excited to add James' global perspective and wide-ranging experience in the internet sector and Tom's strong Fintech and payments expertise to our US Equity Research team.”
“These hires, together with the recent additions of Paul Fremont in utilities and Jeremy Scott in restaurants and proteins, further highlights our commitment to building a dynamic research product better positioned to deliver unparalleled insight to clients and investors in these important sectors,” he added.
The hires are the latest additions to Mizuho Americas since adding Paul Fremont earlier this year, who helped expand the group’s utilities coverage.
