The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) will head into 2017 with new leadership, following an announcement that it will be appointing Jean-Christophe Durand as its newest CEO, who steps into the role at the end of the month, according to a Reuters statement.

The NBB had a void on its hands after Abdul Razak al-Qassim revealed he would be retiring from the position of CEO. He originally joined the bank back in 1977, following almost a decade in other banking roles at Standard Chartered and Chase. Mr. al-Qassim will stay on with the bank for at least another month to serve as an advisor and help facilitate a transition.

Jean-Christophe Durand recently came over to the NBB from BNP Paribas, relinquishing the role of Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) in August. Additional roles for Durand also include stints as the CEO of Bahraini sovereign fund Mumtalakat, according to information made public on his Linkedin profile.
