Retail Forex brokerage, OANDA has appointed Ella Hacer Gumus as its new senior affiliate Marketing manager. She joined the brokerage from rival brokerage GAIN Capital.
According to her Linkedin profile, Gumus joined OANDA earlier this month, after spending years in the marketing teams of several brokerages, mostly strategizing their affiliate marketing programs.
Prior to her new role at OANDA, she was the global affiliate marketing manager at GAIN Capital, and she parted after spending almost three years with the broker.
Additionally, she handled affiliate marketing for London-based Core Spreads and online gambling and casinos operator, GVC Group.
She had started her career in 2002 as a financial advisor with Aviva and later switched to marketing roles after the completion of her studies and completed a masters in the field from Kingston University.
OANDA vs GAIN Capital
Moreover, Gumus’ appointment at OANDA is interesting given the broker’s ongoing fight with GAIN Capital, her previous employer.
OANDA filed a patent infringement lawsuit against GAIN Capital earlier this year for violating its patented technologies, namely, US Patent Nos. 7,146,336 (‘the ’366 patent’) and 8,392,311 (‘the ’311 patent’).

“Defendants have infringed one or more claims of the ʼ336 Patent by making, using, selling, offering for sale, or selling products and/or services that meet each of the limitations of one or more claims of the ʼ336 Patent,” OANDA claimed.
In the legal tussle between the two brokers, GAIN moved to the court requesting a stay order and later pushed for a CBM review as it believes that “90%+ likelihood of unpatentability.”
