Kristian Ekblom, a former senior trader at BNP Paribas, has parted ways with the group, landing at Opera Trading Capital as its newest Portfolio Manager with immediate effect, Finance Magnates has learned.
Mr. Ekblom has spent the bulk of his career in trading, specifically in the realm of foreign Exchange (FX), having worked at a number of leading banking institutions for the past eight years. His most recent stint was as BNP Paribas’ Senior Trader for G10 FX Options Trading, a position he held for nearly four years, while being based out of the lender’s London branch.
Moreover, Mr. Ekblom cut his teeth while working as an Associate, G10 FX Options Trading at Citi for over four years, dating back to 2008, according to information made public on his Linkedin profile.
Opera Trading Capital operates as a propitiatory arm of BNP Paribas. In his new role at Opera, Mr. Ekblom will work as a Portfolio Manager, where he will be based out of London. Finance Magnates reached out to Mr. Ekblom who was unavailable for additional comment.
Opera Trading Capital recently made headlines with the loss of Paolo Nicolosi, the group’s Head of Foreign Exchange (FX) Alpha Proprietary Trading, after less than a year in the role. Mr. Nicolosi had as the Co-Head of London Branch and Head of FX Alpha Proprietary dating back to July 2015 and also came over from BNP Paribas’ London-based FX desk.
For its part, BNP Paribas has abstained from any widespread personnel shifts across its global business, unlike other lenders such as Deutsche Bank and Standard Chartered. The group’s most recent marquee hire was an addition to its Asia-Pacific (APAC) ) operations, which saw the appointment of Philippe Benoit as its newest regional head.
