Playtech, a gaming and financial technology giant, announced on Tuesday that it has appointed Ian Penrose as a Non-Executive Director. Penrose will join the Company’s Board on September 1, 2018.

Following his appointment to the Board in September, Penrose will become a member of the Audit, Risk & Compliance , Remuneration and Nominations committees. He hjoins Playtech with more than 20 years of experience in the global gaming, technology, and leisure sector.

Before his appointment to Playtech, Penrose was the CEO of Sportech PLC for 12 years from 2005 to 2017. In this role, he was able to turn around the declining business, which at the time predominately focused on the United Kingdom, into a global business primarily based in North America.

According to a by Playtech, Penrose’s strategic and operational knowledge, particularly of international regulated gaming markets in the United States, will be a great bonus to the firm's Board.

"Ian led the business turnaround and international repositioning at Sportech PLC and will bring knowledge of the US gambling market in particular, having led strategic initiatives in the region over the last 8 years, and has been personally licensed in several states."

“His deep sector experience makes him a valuable addition and we look forward to working with Ian, who will bring a fresh and insightful perspective to Board discussions," he added.

Currently, Penrose is the Non-Executive Chairman of the National Football Museum based in Manchester. He is also a strategic and operational advisor to Alizeti Capital. Penrose is helping the firm with the Acquisition of the UK Tote.

Between 1983 to 1986 Penrose studied at the University of Manchester, graduating with a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Management Sciences.

Throughout his career, he has also held positions at Arena Leisure PLC, where he was the CEO from 2001 to 2005. Before this, Penrose was the finance and corporate development director for the firm from 1998 to 2000.
