Wells Fargo has hired Rob Ritchie as head of banking and capital markets for its London office, according to market sources.

Ritchie previously worked as co-head of global banking at HSBC, responsible for corporate banking, corporate finance and corporate broking in the UK. He spent more than two years at the bank from 2017. He was responsible for senior financing relationships in Europe and established strong treasurer and CFO relationships at a number of major UK corporates and utilities and European multinationals, according to an HSBC memo.

Before that, he worked in DCM and IB coverage at Goldman Sachs for a decade and as an executive director at UBS for another ten years, focussing on UK DCM, SSA, FIG, and Corporate.

Senior management changes at HSBC

Ritchie left HSBC in 2019 when the bank reshuffled its senior management, and shortly after Julian Wentzel was appointed to a new role as head of Global banking UK and international Europe.

Wentzel had joined the bank in 2015 as head of banking at HSBC Africa and relocated to London to take up his new position. Earlier in his career, he served at Macquarie Group, where he spent more than nine years in various roles.

Before leaving the firm in 2015, Wentzel headed the cash Equities division for Macquarie in Europe, which included all products sold within Europe to the UK and European institutional investors.
