Standard Chartered has recently announced the selection of Sadia Ricke, an industry veteran with nearly three decades of experience in the banking sector, as its new Group Chief Risk Officer.
Ricke will join Standard Chartered on 1 February 2023 and will be based in London. In her new role, she will report directly to Bill Winters, Standard Chartered’s Chief Executive Officer. Ricke’s appointment is subject to regulatory approvals.
Ricke joins Standard Chartered from Société Générale where she spent 28 years. During her time with the French financial services giant, Ricke held a wide range of roles, including Head of Global Finance (Asia Pacific). In her most recent role, she was working as the Group Chief Risk officer.
Commenting on the appointment of Ricke, the CEO of SC, Bill Winters, said: “Sadia has a broad range of financial and risk experience from her career, not least of which is a thorough understanding of our footprint markets. I and the rest of our Management Team welcome Sadia and look forward to working closely with her.”
Mark Smith
Ricke will replace Mark Smith at Standard Chartered. Smith is retiring on 31 December 2022 after a career of more than four decades in the financial services industry.
“Mark has been an invaluable asset to the Group,” said Winters. “He joined us in 2016 at a crucial time, overhauling our Risk function, fixing legacy issues and helping to secure the foundations of our Bank. We have all benefitted from his wise counsel and leadership.”
