The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Thursday named Jennifer A. Diamantis as chief of the agency’s Office of Market Intelligence, the specialized unit created seven years ago to collect and review thousands of tips, referrals and complaints about alleged fraud.

Ms. Diamantis fills a gap that opened when Vincente L. Martinez, a veteran of the agency, exited last summer. She began her career at the SEC’s Enforcement Division in September 2016 as a Deputy Chief of the office.
A longtime enforcer, Jennifer has close ties to private sector and federal agencies. She was Managing Counsel at CFPB’s Division of Research, Markets, and Regulations. Before that, she served as Supervisory Counsel in the FDIC’s Enforcement Section then joined CFTC’s Division of Enforcement, a tenure that included a stint as Senior Trial Attorney.
Known at the agency as the 'point guard' of the enforcement division, the Office of Market Intelligence collects tips, opens investigations and assigns cases to enforcement lawyers.
Wednesday’s announcement is part of a post-presidential election leadership shakeup at the SEC. Nathaniel Stankard, deputy chief of staff for policy, and General Counsel Anne K. Small, said today they would step down. The moves follow the departure of SEC’s Chairman Mary Jo White from her post two years before term is up, giving the new administration a chance to make its mark on the nation's stock market regulator.
Commenting on her appointment, Ms. Diamantis said: “I am honored to lead the team of dedicated professionals charged with the critically important task of leveraging the valuable intelligence we receive from the public to protect investors, and look forward to continuing to cultivate relationships with our regulatory partners to further this mission.”
Stephanie Avakian, Acting Director of the SEC Enforcement Division, which includes the Office of Market Intelligence, praised Ms. Diamantis’s dedication in a separate statement: “Within a short time, Jennifer has enhanced the Office of Market Intelligence’s critical mission of overseeing the SEC’s collection, evaluation, and dissemination of the vast array of market intelligence that we receive. Jennifer’s rich work experience as a manager and supervisor and her dedication, expertise, and skill make her an ideal fit for leading the office.”
