Shell Asset Management has hired Monique van Gils earlier this month, according to market sources.

Based in the Netherlands, she will oversee investments in hedge funds for oil corporation’s pension plan, the sources said.

Prior to joining the firm, she worked with institutional clients at the Benelux team as a director at BlackRock.

BlackRock is an American global investment management corporation based in New York. The firm is the world’s largest asset manager, with $7.4 trillion in assets under management as of end-Q4 2019.

Long career

Van Gil's career began as an economist at Rabobank Nederland in 1994.

She spent three years at the bank before joining Den Haag-based financial services firm Aegon, a company offering a range of insurance services .

Before leaving Aegon after eight years, van Gils was managing sales solutions for institutional clients.

She then spent five years as a senior investment manager at investment banking firm Schrettlen&Co and more than four years in asset management at Pensoenfonds Horeca.

Van Gils moved to BlackRock in 2015 and spent almost four years at the firm, before taking up her new role at Shell AM.
