Standard Chartered has announced its latest senior appointee, adding Cheri McGuire as its newest Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), who is slated to step into the new role next month, according to a Standard Chartered statement.

In her new role as the CISO, Ms. McGuire will be based out of the lender’s London operations, reporting to Standard Chartered’s Group Chief Information Officer, Michael Gorriz. In this capacity, she will also become a member of the Bank’s Information Technology and Operations Management Team, placing her in a key position to help mold the group’s future ambitions in this space.

As Standard Chartered’s CISO, Ms. McGuire will also be tasked with the oversight of the bank’s information and cyber security governance, strategy, regulatory engagement, policy development, training and awareness, and industry stakeholder partnerships. Moreover, she will also be responsible for Standard Chartered’s information security monitoring.

Ms. McGuire lands at Standard Chartered after several years with Symantec Corporation, which had seen her working as its Vice President of Global Government Affairs and Cyber Security Policy since 2010. Prior to Symantec, she also worked in several senior level security roles, including stints as the Director for Critical Infrastructure and Cyber Security in Microsoft’s Trustworthy Computing Group, among others.

According to Mr. Gorriz in a recent statement on the appointment: "At Standard Chartered, information protection and cyber security are our top priorities. I’m very pleased to welcome Cheri McGuire, an accomplished technology executive, to Standard Chartered Bank. She brings with her more than 25 years of experience in industry and government roles and will be a valuable addition to our team.”
