SWIFT announced this Wednesday that after more than two decades of working with the world’s leading provider of secure financial messaging services, it has appointed Javier Pérez-Tasso as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective from July 1, 2019.

Pérez-Tasso is replacing Gottfried Leibbrandt, who announced back in December of last year that he would step down from the top position at the end of June this year. At present, Pérez-Tasso is the CEO for the Americas and UK region.
In its search for a new CEO, the Belgium-headquartered company utilized a professional search firm, the statement said, and the appointment of Pérez-Tasso follows on from a comprehensive search which looked at both internal and external candidates.

Commenting on the appointment, SWIFT Chairman Yawar Shah, said: “I am delighted to announce Javier’s appointment with the full endorsement of the Board. Pérez-Tasso has been part of the Payments company's team since 1995. At the beginning of his career with the firm, he held a number of technology and leadership roles in business development in the EMEA region.
He commenced his most recent position of CEO, Americas & UK in September of 2015. During this time he has deepened SWIFT’s engagement model with global transaction banks significantly, the statement said. He also successfully delivered business development results in high-growth markets.

When he takes on his new position as CEO, Pérez-Tasso will be based in Belgium at the financial company’s headquarters.
