Symphony Appoints Ex-Bloomberg Sales Manager Birshan to UK Team

Symphony Communication Services has been quickly growing since raising $63 million from a group of investors in May 2017. As part of that growth, it has appointed Michael Birshan, previously of Bloomberg, as a senior account manager. He will be responsible for maintaining key accounts in Europe.

Mr. Birshan worked as a regional sales manager at Bloomberg for four years, and had been with the group for around eleven years in various capacities. He also managed the media distribution revenues of Bloomberg and worked as a sales manager.

β€œI chose to join Symphony as I wanted to be part of something big. There was a clear gap in the market for an enterprise-wide collaboration solution which was Cloud -based and secure," explained Mr. Birshan.

In his new role, Mr. Birshan will be reporting to Dogan Calmaz who is the head of sales and business management for Europe and Middle East (EMEA) at Symphony. Symphony was launched in 2015 and is seen as being in a direct battle with Bloomberg with its messaging system for traders. Thus this appointment has heightened significance.

The group also added the Dow Jones News App to its platform last month which further heightened its capacity to stream news in real time and share updates through the chats on its messaging platform.

The platform was launched by a group of traders from Sell-Side brokers such as Goldman-Sachs, Deutche Bank, and Citi, among others, and continues its competition with the Bloomberg messaging platform.
