Two senior foreign exchange (Forex ) trading technologists and directors have left Citi in recent months to take on new roles at Facebook and Google, Finance Magnates has learned.
The moves, which went largely unnoticed, were made public via LinkedIn and a report from eFinancialCareers. Chris Giles, a former Director, and Global Head of FX STIRT (forward) Trading Technology at Citi is now at Facebook as a Software Engineer, his LinkedIn states.

Giles has almost three decades of experience working in engineer-based roles, with a focus on trading technology since 1995, having spent the last 24 years working at Barclays, Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, and Citi.
Giles joined the New York-headquartered bank in August of 2010, originally as the global head of FX Options Technology. Six years later he was then promoted to the role of global head of FX e-Trading Technology before taking on his most recent role with the firm in January of last year.
James Tromans leaves Citi for Google
James Tromans, on the other hand, has left Citi to become a technical director at the office of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Google Cloud. Troms was previously the head of data science for FX trading at the bank.
Tromans holds a Doctorate in Philosophy in computational neuroscience and artificial intelligence from Oxford University. He spent just over six years with the bank, initially as a senior consultant in June 2013.
Less than a year later he was named as the Senior Vice President of Citi FX and Local Markets Technology. In January of 2017, he was appointed to his final role with the bank.

According to his LinkedIn, in his role at Google, he is specialising: “in applied artificial intelligence and cloud computing. I work within Google Cloud Platform’s Office of the CTO (OCTO), a team of technical experts and leaders originally from Google or industry.
“We guide and advise companies on the use of cloud and AI to transform business, balancing near-term ROI with long-term goals. I have a particular interest in converting abstract business challenges into structured machine learning solutions.
According to their respective LinkedIn profiles, Giles left Citibank in July of this year, joining Facebook in the same month, while Tromans departed one month earlier in June, also joining Google in the same month.
