PayPal has appointed Srini Venkatesan as the Chief Technology Officer. Venkatesan, a seasoned technologist with a background in both tech and retail, brings a wealth of experience that promises to drive innovation and strengthen PayPal's global commerce capabilities.
Venkatesan to Oversee PayPal's Technology Implementation
According to the company, Venkatesan will assume his role as PayPal's Chief Technology Officer on June 24. He will oversee the development and implementation of advanced technology across PayPal's vast ecosystem and report directly to President and CEO Alex Chriss.
Speaking about the latest leadership change, Chriss mentioned: "Srini is a seasoned technologist and leader with a successful track record of building and scaling technology organizations, from early-stage startups to the world's largest retailer. As we execute our mission to revolutionize commerce globally, Srini's experience leading technology, digital transformation, and AI personalization from inside some of our largest customers and partners will be invaluable."
His responsibilities include spearheading efforts in analytics and data science, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, information security, infrastructure operations, and product engineering.
Experience from Retail Giants
Venkatesan joins PayPal from Walmart, where he led the US Omni Platforms and Tech organization. At Walmart, he was instrumental in developing platforms and features that supported the retailer on a global scale. His prior experience includes leading Yahoo's display and video ad technology platform and holding key technology positions at eBay, StubHub, and Marketo.
Archie Deskus, PayPal's outgoing Chief Technology Officer, has decided to leave the firm. Under Deskus' leadership, PayPal reportedly made significant strides in its operations. The company features solutions for customizing money transfers, selling, and shopping.
Early this year, PayPal appointed Simon Bladon, the former Managing Director of Customer and Digital at Barclays, as its new UK CEO. In addition to his role as the UK CEO, Bladon will be Vice President of Global Entity Management at PayPal.
Bladon held various leadership roles at Barclays, with his most recent position being the Managing Director of Customer and Digital, Head of Operations and Control, and also led the implementation of the FCA Consumer Duty. His responsibilities included overseeing customer operations and control, data privacy, and heading regulatory compliance .
