London based UK news Analytics company Acuity Trading has announced a collaboration with the Universitat Politecnica ne Catalunya (UPC). The public university also known as BarcelonaTech has one of the highest rankings for the amount of research that the institution produces.

The move by Acuity Trading is aiming to compliment these efforts by collaborating in various areas of research. Using a number of methods derived from computational statistics, econometrics, mathematical finance and computer science, the new partnership will assist academics to delve deeper into computational finance.

Barcelona is the capital of Spain's Startup community

BarcelonaTech is Spain’s technical university which has the highest number of international PhD students and maintains the highest number of international master’s degree students. It also is already receiving the highest amount of funding from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Program than any other Spanish university.

Students from the university and the company will be able to work closely together which is opening new possibilities for both students and the industry. In recent years, aside from being the cultural capital of Spain, the city of Barcelona has been growing a reputation for becoming the technological hub in the country.

Listing the top startup capitals in Europe, tech magazine Wired has put the city next to Stockholm, Paris, Amsterdam, Helsinki, Tel Aviv and Berlin amongst others.

Commenting on the announcement, the Managing Director of Acuity Trading, Andrew Lane said, “With Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology advancing at its current pace and the surge in its applications across many industries, Acuity Trading is keen to stay at the forefront of developments and to maximise its potential in our product offering both now and in the future.”

“We hope that through academic partnerships, such as this one with the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, companies such as ours not only supports young scientists with the essential skills to enter industry but it also ensures that the academic staff and the Universities themselves are better prepared to support the future direction and needs of our sector,” he explained.

Acuity Trading will be taking part in the Fintech Spotlight at the Finance Magnates Summit in London on 2-3 November 2015.
