Anyone who has developed financial technology platforms will tell you that finding and integrating reliable data is a must for any analysis or market monitoring product. That data is also typically expensive as any product that redistributes pricing to customers also may require costly license fees from exchanges.
Providing a discounted solution for fintech startups is FinTech Sandbox. A Boston based non-profit organization, FinTech Sandbox provides free or discounted financial data feeds and API’s to accepted startups. Data is provided from a slew of participating providers including Thomson Reuters, Xignite, S&P Capital IQ, Tradier, and Factset. In addition, FinTech Sandbox partners include infrastructure providers and Accelerator programs that provide assistance to startups.
Announcing an expansion of their program, FinTech Sandbox has accepted their fifth startup member to be part of the initiative. Entering the program is Volos Portfolio Solution, who joins existing startups Kensho, Quantopian, Elsen and Prophis Technologies. A provider of software that creates options portfolios for hedge funds, Volos will be using available capital markets data from FinTech Sandbox to assist them in analyzing both OTC and traded derivatives.
Our ears perked up the second we heard we could access clean- high-quality market data for free through FinTech Sandbox - Dan Corcoran
Dan Corcoran, CEO and Co- Founder of Volos Portfolio Solutions commented in the public release about the benefits of gaining acceptance to data from FinTech Sandbox as he stated “Our beta testers expect us to use the highest quality data – it’s what they are accustomed to seeing. But the quality level we needed was out of our price range. Our ears perked up the second we heard we could access clean- high-quality market data for free through FinTech Sandbox. We literally looked at one another and said, 'This is perfect'.”
Jean Donnelly, Executive Director of FinTech Sandbox added, “Volos is an example of an early-stage company that can continue to bootstrap if they choose to. They don’t need capital to pay for Hosting and market data while participating in the Sandbox.”
