Betsson bets on native apps for mobile gaming

Betsson, a Swedish based online gaming firm is going mobile. The firm has released an iPhone and iPad app that will bring their online gaming network to iOS devices, with an Android application to be released in the near future.

The company released earlier this year a mobile java applet that allows mobile players to play alongside desktop site users. The shift to a mobile app, that includes both a casino and sportsbook feature, will help instill the Swedish firm’s position in the mobile gaming industry.

“We see that gambling via smartphones is growing rapidly and we are confident that native apps are the form that the customers will choose in the future.” Magnus Silfverberg, CEO of Betsson stated on the new addition to Apple’s App Store.

The app has been approved by Apple to be added to their App Store, and complies with all their regulations and restraints. The main hurdle that Betsson needed to overcome was the issue of blocking users from countries where online gaming is not legal, which they have.

With the growing market of mobile users who prefer their smartphones and tablets over their PC, it is not surprising to see more companies making the transition to mobile applications.
