eBay to offer one hour shipping after Shutl acquisition

Ecommerce giant, eBay has announced today that they have acquired UK based Startup , Shutl. Shutl Who initially began providing their services alongside UK retailer Argos, offers shipping under one hour within London.

eBay’s newest Acquisition displays their interest in expanding the eBay brand within London using Shutl’s infrastructure for speedy delivery from local sellers.

“Approximately 75 percent of what people buy is local, found within 15 miles from their home” and that “Traditional retail isn’t going away. But it is transforming, and that creates enormous opportunity within the $10 trillion total commerce market.” eBay President Devin Wenig stated at a New York Press event.

The Shutl acquisition comes off the heels of the launch of eBay’s “Click and Collect” service last month in the UK, and allows customers to pay for products, and pick them up from a physical storefront nearby.

These two steps towards fast and efficient delivery shows us a new direction that eBay is very interested in taking. We can only hope that the current UK exclusive services, are simply a pilot, and we can see them expanding their new shipping methods to more regions in the near future
