Zotapay, a payment gateway hub services provider, revealed to Finance Magnates that it has signed a sponsorship deal with Spanish football club Deportivo Alavés, more commonly referred to as just Alavés.

The deal will be effective at least until the end of the current La Liga football season, which began on August 17, 2018, and will continue until May 19, 2019.

Under the agreement, Alavés will use Zotapay’s payment system for processing their Payments for merchandise, revenue from games and more. In addition, the company will display their brand across the shirts of the players and coach, as well as advertising opportunities via the club’s official website, social media accounts, fan forums and on the field itself each game until the end of the season.

While the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zotapay, Avner (Abe) Ziv, was not willing to reveal the exact value of the sponsorship deal, he did say it was worth “hundreds of thousands of Euros.”

The Alavés club is based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Álava. At present, the team plays in the highest football category of The Liga Nacional de Futbol Profesional (National Professional Football League). It has been in the Primera (primary) division since the 2016-2017 season.

Speaking to Finance Magnates, the CEO of Zotapay said: “The team is the surprise of the season. Was in the top 5 spots during the last year, putting up a competition to the major football teams, like Barcelona and Real Madrid. I find much similarities to Zotapay here. We’re relatively new, but present a fierce competition to the more based players.”

Zotapay to expand its presence in motorsports

This is not the first sports sponsorship deal for Zotapay, as last year the payments company sponsored the Griip car, which won the luxury Formula 3 tournament last season. According to a statement released by Zotapay, after that success, the company was looking for a bigger challenge.

“We will extend our sponsorship to Formula One to this year as well,” the CEO of Zotapay added. Abe Ziv also revealed to Finance Magnates that the company is planning more sponsorship deals in the coming year.
