MercadoLibre and ChannelAdvisor to take on Latin America

MercadoLibre, Latin America’s largest operator of online retail marketplaces has announced that they have joined forces with ChannelAdvisor. ChannelAdvisor is a US based company that specializes in Cloud -based solutions for online merchants so they can integrate their stores, and sell their merchandise through hundreds of different ecommerce outlets, like Amazon and eBay. ChannelAdvisor also provides optimization for price comparison search engines.

ChannelAdvisor’s solutions will help with automating product feeds, inventory management, product listings, post sales customer service, and will assist in improving sales to companies who wish to sell via MercadoLibre’s marketplace.

According to MercadoLibre CEO, Marcos Galperin, the aim is to make the MercadoLibre platform more appealing to larger companies. ChannelAdvisor will serve both existing MercadoLibre sellers, and the larger companies that should follow suit shortly. ChannelAdvisor’s solutions are intended to help theses sellers and companies reach the 81.5 million registered users on MercadoLibre, according to their CEO Scot Wingo.

“We believe this partnership will increase our marketplace listings and bring new strategic clients, fully integrated with our systems. Ultimately, our consumers will benefit through an even better buying experience. “MercadoLibre COO, Steleo Tolda, Added on the partnership.

In order to provide services to Latin America, ChannelAdvisor will open new offices in São Paulo, Brazil. Brazil is MercadoLibre’s largest market compiling of 48% of their overall $5.7 Billion in sales made over the last year.

MercadoLibre supports sales in 12 Latin American countries and Portugal. In addition, MercadoLibre is partly owned by ecommerce behemoth eBay, who has an 18.4% stake in the company.

Although partly owned by eBay, it does seem that MercadoLibre is preparing for their Brazilian launch next year. With adding a few weapons from ChannelAdvisor’s arsenal, it seems like they are ready for the competition.
