Internet giant Google is continuing to expand the support of its wallet service Google Wallet to more platforms. Now, according to a source close to the company, it will add Google Wallet support to its array of smart glasses Google Glass.
Shortly after adding support for money transfers via Google Wallet to Gmail and easing integration to android devices with the help of Host Card Emulation (HCE) it is the wearable’s turn to get the money transfer treatment.
The money transfers will be activated as any other feature on the smartglasses, by voice. The Google voice command to prompt the service is simple and goes in conjunction with the rest of the wearable operating system.
“Ok Glass, send money to ” is the voice command to send funds.
According to the source, the service is being tested internally at Google HQ. The user currently requires a PC on Google’s corporate network to be signed in to the wallet service. from there the application can also be downloaded and installed.
Currently the device itself is still in beta stage with glasses being made only to developers and to those who were invited. We shouldn't expect the support for Google Wallet to stop with Glass.
Google has developed a smartwatch version of its android operating system called Android Wear. As with Samsung’s smartwatches, we should expect payment options to be ladled in to Android Wear devices.
Google Wallet has a transfer fee of 2.9% or $0.30, depending on which one is higher.
