The reason for Johnson relieving his position is not clear. A spokesperson for Optimal Payments simply stated "changing personal circumstances" in regard to Johnson’s sudden announcement. Currently, Jonathan Comerford, a non-executive director has been appointed as interim chairman, until a new chairman is appointed.

The news came as quite a surprise, given Optimal Payments stellar first half of this year, with a 75% increase with their Netteller ewallet division. The company’s stock did drop yesterday by 1%, most likely due to the sudden news of Johnson’s departure.
